Several years ago, Oxford, with its outwardly appealing buildings full of intellectual history, was also the site of a child abuse scandal. The Thames Valley Police called it Operation Bullfinch. I was asked by a friend to produce a piece of work for International Womens Week and to reflect on something that made me angry. The scandal which happened in Oxford not far from where I work was so shocking that I wanted to respond to it. Research is always a rich place to start so having looked into ‘Bullfinch’ I discovered they are birds which eat the buds of fruit before they have had a chance to fully develop; a sort of tragic poetry in TVP. That was my starting point and here is a selection of images I used showing the stages of the bullfinch’s work.
