Wytham Woods 2020 - Present

The woods are a constant source of inspiration for me. I have photographed in Wytham Woods, Oxford exploring the subtle changes of light - during the day, at twilight and during the night.

During lockdown I photographed the trees using a 35mm camera and a Hasselblad medium format camera using analogue film before burying the film beneath the trees. The film was left buried for weeks or months, during which mycelium ate away at parts of the surface distorting the images, which changed in unpredictable ways. The altered surfaces were a document of the time during lockdown and the processes which go on beneath the surface.

The sustainable aspect of my work is important to me and I am exploring ways of working with plant based developers and growing mycelium to return images to the earth.
