Sustainable working
When I started my MA Photography at RCA I was sure I would work in sustainable ways but somehow that didn’t work out. I became fascinated by the colour in the transparencies and turned to scanning and digitally working. I found I missed working with my hands in the darkroom and have been getting back to it. Here are a few images of work I made while in Norway - I gathered bladderwrack seaweed from the local beach and brewed it up at home often working at night in the basement. I used Melanie King’s recipe but think the Norwegian soda crystals were stronger then UK ones so had to half the developing time. The first roll came out with what appeared to be nothing on it but there are images just without much contrast. I’m working to make them visible.
I started on the MRes part time over 2 years and will continue with this work and research.
I am a visual artist/photographer living in Oxford. I’m endlessly fascinated by the natural world, especially aspects of it which explore process and nature. My focus on photography ranges from alternative processes such as cyanotypes and photograms, to working with medium format and 35 mm film cameras using slide positive film, black and white, and colour.
I’m currently at The Royal College of Art studying on the Masters of Research.
